Oh Fisherman’s Wharf. That oh-so-touristy but yet you still kinda have to do it San Francisco attraction. While you’ll be hard pressed to ever find a local hanging out there (they tend to avoid it like the plague) they’d probably also admit that they too checked it out upon first visiting the city. It may not be the most unique or artsy part of SF but it has a history all its own, and some great hidden gems beyond the typical tourist chachki shops and overpriced food. (Seriously, for amazing SF food, you are definitely better off elsewhere). The sea lions are cute, and the boat rides are fun, but don’t miss the creative wave organ on the coast or the memorable Musee Mecanique. It’s a ‘museum’ of all vintage arcade games that you can actually still play. There’s more than meets the eye at Fisherman’s Wharf and Pier 39, so if you find yourself saying ‘no way, I’m an off the beaten path kinda guy or gal’, give it a shot with us.
